چکیده

The technology of optical coherence tomography (OCT) has evolved from time-domain to frequencydomain imaging. Time-domain OCT is most often performed using proximal balloon occlusion; as such, dimensions are smaller than measured using intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), presumably due to diminished perfusion pressure. Conversely, frequency-domain OCT does not require proximal balloon occlusion, theoretically resulting in more accurate measurements.

Direct Comparison of Virtual-Histology Intravascular Ultrasound and Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging for Identification of Thin-Cap Fibroatheroma

BACKGROUND Although rupture of thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) underlies most myocardial infarctions, reliable TCFA identification remains challenging. Virtual-histology intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) can assess tissue composition and classify plaques. However, direct comparisons between VH-IVUS and OCT are lacking and it remains unknown whether combinin...

Impact of frequency-domain optical coherence tomography guidance for optimal coronary stent implantation in comparison with intravascular ultrasound guidance.

BACKGROUND Frequency-domain optical coherence tomography (FD-OCT) is a novel, high resolution intravascular imaging modality. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a widely used conventional imaging modality for achieving optimal stent deployment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of FD-OCT guidance for coronary stent implantation compared with IVUS guidance. METHODS AND RESULTS A...

Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis of Attenuated Plaques Detected by Intravascular Ultrasound in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes

Background. Recent intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) studies have demonstrated that hypoechoic plaque with deep ultrasound attenuation despite absence of bright calcium is common in acute coronary syndrome. Such "attenuated plaque" may be an IVUS characteristic of unstable lesion. Methods. We used optical coherence tomography (OCT) in 104 patients with unstable angina to compare lesion characteri...

Optical coherence tomography versus intravascular ultrasound to evaluate coronary artery disease and percutaneous coronary intervention.

OBJECTIVES We compared intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and 2 different generations of optical coherence tomography (OCT)-time-domain OCT (TD-OCT) and frequency-domain OCT (FD-OCT)-for the assessment of coronary disease and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using stents. BACKGROUND OCT is a promising light-based intravascular imaging modality with higher resolution than IVUS. However, t...

Critical analysis of the correlation between optical coherence tomography versus intravascular ultrasound and fractional flow reserve in the management of intermediate coronary artery lesion.

The appropriate assessment of intermediate coronary artery stenosis continues to be a challenge for cardiologists. Several studies have shown that anatomic parameters obtained by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed a correlation with fractional flow reserve (FFR) values in identifying hemodynamically severe coronary stenoses. However, the efficacy of IV...
